On October 30, the southern regions of Estonia experienced a new incident involving unidentified drones that attracted the attention of local and international media.

Near the Reedo military town, situated close to the Russian border, the Estonian defense forces successfully shot down one of two unknown drones that had entered Estonian airspace.

According to information released on October 17 by local media, this incident occurred earlier, with official statements shedding more light on the event.

Lizabeth Waxmann, the spokesperson for the General Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces, reported that during an attack near the 2nd Infantry Brigade military facility, drones were detected and destroyed; one was taken out with an anti-drone rifle.

Nonetheless, attempts to locate other drones proved unsuccessful, and details about their origins and purposes remain unavailable.

Furthermore, the Estonian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the country is prepared to defend its airspace from any violations, including the potential shooting down of Russian drones.

This stance aligns with statements by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, who expressed Estonia’s readiness to use force if necessary to protect national borders.

Meanwhile, Estonian Defense Commander Andrus Merilo warned against hasty military responses, such as shooting down Russian fighters that breached Estonian airspace in September, considering such actions a strategic mistake that could lead to serious international repercussions.
