Tragic Accident Involving Inter Goalkeeper: Elderly Man on Wheelchair Killed

Chas Pravdy - 28 October 2025 17:54

In northern Italy, in the province of Como, a shocking traffic accident occurred involving one of the country’s most well-known football clubs — Inter Milan.

The club’s goalkeeper, 27-year-old Spaniard Josep Martinez, was involved in a fatal incident where he hit an 81-year-old man who was using a wheelchair.

The accident took place early in the morning on October 28 near the team’s training base.

Preliminary reports suggest that the driver struck a pedestrian crossing the road, possibly attempting to cross the street via a bike lane.

There is a version that the elderly man suddenly moved onto the road due to health deterioration or a sudden attack, causing the wheelchair to roll onto the roadway.

Despite the quick arrival of emergency services and medical personnel, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Martinez was unharmed but was in shock and is cooperating fully with investigators.

In light of this tragic event, club management canceled the head coach Cristian Kivu’s scheduled press conference to express condolences to the victim’s family.

It is noteworthy that the goalkeeper gained recognition not only for his career achievements but also due to this sad incident.

He has also been a backup goalkeeper for the Spanish national team, having played one match in 2021.

Throughout his career, he has played for clubs such as Genoa, RB Leipzig, and Las Palmas.

This tragedy echoes similar road safety issues in Ukraine and other regions, where road accidents often lead to devastating consequences, raising concerns over traffic safety in the area.
