Russian Disinformation: Fake Claims about Mines on Ukrainian Soldiers’ Corpses and Systematic Propagation of Lies

Chas Pravdy - 28 October 2025 18:41

Russian media and propaganda outlets are once again spreading false information aimed at discrediting Ukrainian soldiers and undermining confidence in the Ukrainian military.

The Center for Countering Disinformation warns that this time, a fabricated story is circulating claiming that Ukrainian defenders supposedly ‘mine the bodies of their fallen.’ According to the representatives of the Center, this propaganda is based on a statement by an anonymous Russian military figure claiming that in 99.9% of cases, Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies are booby-trapped, yet no evidence—photos, videos, or official documents—are provided.

This is a typical example of a information operation designed to tarnish Ukraine’s defense forces and justify Russian war crimes.

Russia regularly disseminates such falsehoods to damage Ukraine’s military image and legitimize its aggressive actions.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian and international monitoring organizations confirm that Ukraine adheres to international humanitarian law and does not employ prohibited methods of warfare.

In contrast, Russian forces systematically mine civilian objects — homes, hospitals, playgrounds — leaving explosive devices in everyday items and even toys, which constitutes ongoing war crimes.

These facts are documented by Ukrainian and international human rights groups.

Additionally, the Center reports on a new wave of fake videos circulating on TikTok, portraying Ukrainian soldiers as suffering from low morale or even mentioning ‘cannibalism’ among comrades.

However, these videos are created with artificial intelligence and bear no relation to the real situation on the front lines.
