Putin and Shoigu Plan to Recruit Volunteers to Protect Critical Infrastructure in Russia
Amidst increasing security concerns within Russia, high-ranking officials are discussing the formation of new volunteer units tasked with safeguarding vital and strategically important facilities across the country.
According to information shared by Sergey Shoigu, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, President Vladimir Putin has given his support to the initiative to establish regional volunteer detachments focused on the most vulnerable and high-value sites.
These units are intended to prevent potential terrorist attacks or other forms of aggression against critical infrastructure.
The initiative reportedly originates from the Nizhny Novgorod region, which has recently experienced frequent drone attacks allegedly originating from Ukraine.
At this stage, officials have yet to disclose detailed plans regarding the composition, formation procedures, or operational mechanisms of these volunteer groups.
