Defense and advances in Ukraine’s Donetsk region: Ukrainian forces push back enemy, but Russian troops make territorial gains in the east

Chas Pravdy - 28 October 2025 14:32

On the dramatic evening of October 22, Ukrainian defenders achieved significant breakthroughs in the Donetsk region, repelling Russian military advances in the Pokrovsk district.

According to sources, Ukrainian forces managed to push back the enemy near strategic points such as Kucheriovy Yar and Novyi Shakhiv, regaining control over these settlements.

However, despite these successes, the situation remains tense.

Meanwhile, analytical reports indicate that Russian troops are advancing on the eastern front, making progress near Zvirove in the Pokrovsk district and near Stepova Novosilka in the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region.

This was preceded by the liberation of the village Kucheriovy Yar, captured by Ukrainian airborne units on October 22 as part of a counteroffensive, during which civilians were evacuated from the frontline zone.

Ukrainian forces continue to hold key positions, although large parts of the region are now under enemy control, who has advanced further east.

The conflict remains tense and unpredictable, with the situation capable of changing rapidly depending on ongoing military actions.
