Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently gave an in-depth interview to Axios, providing insights into possible scenarios of the ongoing conflict and outlining his position on employing high-tech weaponry to bolster national defense.

Zelensky emphasized that acquiring Tomahawk missiles from the United States, even without immediate deployment, will significantly shift the battlefield dynamics and serve as a strong deterrent against Russia.

He stated that working with President Putin should be conducted solely through diplomatic pressure rather than direct military confrontation. The leader stressed that to achieve meaningful negotiations, it is crucial to instill fear in Russia regarding the potential losses of energy infrastructure within its territory.

This, according to Zelensky, will compel Putin to take negotiations more seriously.

He also mentioned informing former President Trump about this strategy and noted that even without the immediate use of missiles, the threat alone can push Russia toward compromise.Discussing U.S.

support, Zelensky highlighted that beyond missile technology, other high-tech tools—requiring minimal training—are equally essential.

He reiterated that the only effective method to pressure Putin involves a combination of diplomatic and military measures.

Zelensky pointed out that sanctions are beneficial but limited without additional impactful actions. He concluded that if negotiations are completely absent, escalation is inevitable.

He warned that this could lead to increased tension and advocated for a broad range of measures, including long-range missile systems.

Regarding plans to receive Tomahawk missiles, Zelensky stated that Ukraine could obtain them in the near future, though these plans remain under discussion. Finally, Zelensky summarized his meeting with Trump, stressing the importance of avoiding a Trump-Putin summit without Ukraine’s participation to maintain Ukraine’s diplomatic standing and prevent diplomatic isolation.
