Ukraine Strikes Deep into Russia: Strategy and Outcomes

Chas Pravdy - 25 October 2025 16:31

Ukrainian military forces continue to carry out strategically significant operations against Russia, focusing on two main fronts — disrupting oil infrastructure and weakening the aggressor country’s defense industry.

According to Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, these strikes aim to halt the export of petroleum products and reduce energy resource production in Russia.

Already, there is a noticeable decline in gasoline and hydrocarbon exports, which significantly impacts the aggressor’s economy.

Ukraine has intensified its offensive actions, notably by attacking oil refineries in Ryazan and ammunition depots in the Belgorod region.

Budanov emphasized that Ukrainian forces have almost completely pushed Russian troops out of the oil and fuel export sector, marking a strategic success.

The results of these strikes are evident: after the attack on the Ryazan oil refinery, the plant halted the operation of its primary oil refining unit CDU-4.

At the same time, strikes on the Russian defense industry have had a lesser but still impactful effect.

Expert Oleg Sarkić, in his article “From Feodosia to Ufa: the strategic effectiveness of tactical strikes on Russian refineries,” explains how Ukrainian drones have transformed into one of the most effective economic weapons of war, destroying critical logistical and manufacturing facilities of the enemy.
