Intense Fighting in Pokrovsk: Russian Tactics and Ukrainian Defense

Chas Pravdy - 25 October 2025 11:30

In the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, fierce battles continue between Ukrainian forces and Russian invaders.

According to the military headquarters, Russian troops are conducting offensive operations by infiltrating small groups of two to three soldiers through Ukrainian defensive lines.

The enemy carries out up to five assaults daily, actively employing artillery and various types of drones to strengthen their attacks.

Ukrainian soldiers utilize reconnaissance drones to locate Russian infantry attempting to sneak between positions, eliminating them swiftly.

Ivan Golovach, a staff sergeant from the 25th Airborne Brigade, reported that Russian occupiers try to disguise themselves, camouflage in civilian clothing, and form assault units consisting of women to complicate Ukrainian defenses.

Additionally, Russian forces are using armored vehicles to protect logistical routes but avoid approaching Ukrainian positions closer than a thousand meters to prevent effective Ukrainian strikes.

The Russians continue to camouflage their movements amidst changing weather conditions, trying to evacuate wounded and fallen soldiers, which complicates the situation on the ground.

The commander of the ‘Shersni Dovbush’ drone battalion, known by the call sign ‘Luyti,’ explains that Russian troops are moving chaotically around Pokrovsk.

Volunteer Serhiy Sternenko emphasizes that the city lacks proper logistics and that vehicle access is impossible.

As reported by Sky News in September, Ukraine’s defense of Pokrovsk might be nearing its end due to Russian forces pushing Ukrainian defenders out of the area.
