France prepares for deployment of ground forces in Ukraine by 2026: security guarantees on the agenda
Amid intensifying international support for Ukraine’s security and defense efforts, the French military is approaching a significant readiness milestone.
Chief of the French Land Forces, General Pierre Schill, officially announced plans to deploy forces in Ukraine as early as 2026, should security guarantees for Ukraine’s sovereignty become necessary.
During a hearing before the National Assembly, he emphasized that the French ground troops will be capable of responding swiftly to three main challenges, with a possible military escalation in the region.
This statement comes amidst internal debates about military contingents, as France previously discussed reducing troop plans for Ukraine after the end of active hostilities.
Meanwhile, France’s Chief of the General Staff, General Fabiën Mandon, expressed confidence that within three to four years, France must be prepared for a serious confrontation with Russia, as the Kremlin may be tempted to expand hostilities across Europe, threatening regional stability.
