Famous Odessa Businessman’s Death: Doctors Suspended Over Alleged Medical Negligence
Law enforcement authorities in Odessa have taken significant steps by formally suspecting two physicians from a private medical facility in connection with the death of a prominent local entrepreneur.
The case details reveal that 62-year-old businessman, well-known in Odessa circles, underwent several months of cancer treatment at a private clinic.
According to expert assessments, his death could have been prevented if timely diagnosis, proper evaluation of his condition, and adequate treatment had been administered.
Media reports identify the deceased as Adnan Kivan, who passed away in October 2024 at the age of 62.
Police suspect that the clinic’s doctors committed serious violations of medical standards, which led to the development of sepsis in the patient.
This septic condition, combined with the ongoing cancer, ultimately caused his death.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, from May to October 2024, the victim received treatment at this private hospital.
Investigators have gathered sufficient evidence establishing a causal link between medical malpractice and the fatal outcome.
Consequently, a surgeon and an oncologist from the clinic have been formally charged with professional negligence.
They face potential imprisonment of up to two years, along with disqualification from certain positions or activities for up to five years.
It is also recalled that in March 2018, Adnan Kivan acquired the English-language publication Kyiv Post for over 3.5 million dollars.
