Austria Considers Extradition of Former SBU General Naumov: A Critical Decision Nears

Chas Pravdy - 25 October 2025 15:25

The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine reports that an Austrian court will soon decide on the extradition of former high-ranking official of Ukraine’s Security Service, General Andriy Naumov, who is wanted internationally and has been placed on the wanted list.

According to sources, the regional court in Bad Korneuburg is set to review the extradition case shortly, a move that has garnered significant attention from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.

Naumov, who previously led the Internal Security Department of the SBU, moved to Austria in October 2025 after serving a brief prison sentence in Serbia for violating local laws.

Ukrainian authorities notified their Austrian counterparts about his relocation last year.

His escape story is tense: he left Ukraine a few hours before Russia’s large-scale invasion on February 24 and evacuated his family beforehand.

Ukrainian law enforcement suspects him of treason, and searches were conducted in his Kyiv apartments in March.

In June 2022, reports indicated that Naumov was detained at the Serbian border for money laundering concerns.

No final verdict has been issued against him yet—Serbian courts recently overturned his conviction and sent the case back for review.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies have uncovered signs of corruption involving more than 32 million hryvnias attributable to Naumov.
