Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently made a significant statement regarding Ukraine’s future financing during the ‘Coalition of Determined’ meeting.

She emphasized that a crucial political decision, which would pave the way for providing Ukraine with essential funds, is likely to be made before Christmas.

According to her, the technical details will be addressed in subsequent steps, but the main focus is on the political choice that demonstrates support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.”I don’t see any alternative — the idea of allowing Russia to compensate Ukraine for damages is the only viable way forward.

Technical and bureaucratic issues can be sorted out later, but the priority is making a political decision,” she stated.Frederiksen, who currently chairs the European Union Council, continues to support the idea of granting Ukraine a reparations credit despite negative outcomes from the EU leaders’ summit on October 23.

She noted that the EU is not yet prepared to direct frozen Russian assets toward a Ukrainian credit due to existing legal and political challenges.”I understand that some colleagues see this path as more difficult, but we need to resolve this issue.

The alternative is to let Russia win this war and force Europeans to pay instead.

Therefore, technical questions must be resolved soon,” she added.Overall, Frederiksen believes that the reparations credit will become a vital element of assistance to Ukraine, aimed at restoring stability and security in the region.

She expresses confidence that such a decision will bring closer victory and help overcome the consequences of the ongoing conflict.
