Investigation into the death of a serviceman in Kyiv: calls for transparency and justice

Chas Pravdy - 24 October 2025 23:35

Olga Reshetilova, Ukraine’s military ombudsperson, has publicly called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of a 43-year-old serviceman that occurred at the Kyiv Military Commissariat (TCC).

According to her, the situation raises numerous questions not only among the family of the deceased but also within Ukrainian society at large.

She stated that she maintains close contact with the family’s lawyer, from whom she received all available information.

The parents of the victim seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding their son’s death, as well as scrutinize the actions of law enforcement officers, medical personnel, and the military administration that might have influenced the tragic outcome.

Reshetilova emphasized that all details must be meticulously clarified within the criminal proceeding and expressed hope that law enforcement will perform effectively.

She urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact her directly, assuring confidentiality.

The issue surfaced after Kyiv police announced on October 24 that they had launched a criminal case concerning the death of a man who sustained injuries inside the Kyiv Territorial Center of the Military Commissariat in Podilsky district and subsequently died.

Initial reports indicated that he lost consciousness, fell, and hit his head on a hard surface, which was identified as the cause of death.

The military authorities initially stated that the injuries occurred due to a fall, but investigations are ongoing to establish all factual circumstances and determine responsibility.
