France prepares for possible deployment of troops in Ukraine in 2026: official statements and international coalition

Chas Pravdy - 24 October 2025 23:42

Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and the pursuit of safeguarding NATO and Ukraine’s interests, France is not ruling out the possibility of deploying its ground forces to Ukraine.

Recent statements from high-ranking officials indicate that French military forces are ready for mobilization and rapid deployment in 2026 if needed.

Pierre Schill, head of the French Land Forces, stated on October 24 during a defense committee hearing in the National Assembly that France maintains strategic preparedness for various scenarios.

If the Ukrainian issue remains on Europe’s agenda, Paris has both the capacity and willingness to respond: “We are prepared to deploy our forces within the framework of security guarantees, as supporting Ukraine remains our collective goal,” the official representative emphasized.

He also noted that the French army is capable of reacting to multiple challenges simultaneously, including potential deployments in Ukraine, as part of Europe’s multi-variant military strategy.

It is important to understand that any further deployment of Western troops in the region in case of ceasefire or truce will be coordinated by a “coalition of the resolute” led by Britain and France.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted at the recent summit that the main achievement of the week was the unity of the West in countering Russia and supporting Ukraine.

UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace confirmed that London is already preparing for potential troop deployment in Ukraine should a peace treaty be signed between Kyiv and Moscow, opening new avenues for security cooperation.
