Zelensky Discusses Delicate Issue of Tomahawk Missile Supplies to Ukraine During Meeting with Trump

Chas Pravdy - 23 October 2025 11:25

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently addressed the sensitive topic of potential U.S.

missile supplies, describing the matter of delivering Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine as highly delicate.

He emphasized that, similar to past sanctions, decisions on such military support initially seemed impossible, but ultimately proved crucial for Ukraine’s security.

Zelensky underscored that the final decision lies with the American side, which has its own considerations.

During a recent Brussels briefing, President Trump stated that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is currently not feasible because the training required to operate them takes up to a year, highlighting the technical complexity and power of these weapons.

Trump clarified that the U.S.

will not train other nations to use this sophisticated armament, effectively leaving the potential for Ukraine to use them only if the U.S.

directly employs the missiles.

Zelensky added that this issue remains open and that in the long term, future decisions may align with Ukraine’s strategic needs, especially considering the importance of energy sanctions and ongoing support against Russian aggression.

Notably, on October 17, Zelensky traveled to Washington for meetings with President Trump.

Despite two prior phone conversations, the topic of delivering Tomahawk missiles was met with clear resistance from the U.S., citing the extensive training process and technical challenges involved.
