Ukrainian students undergoing military training automatically gain reserve status: new changes in military registration
The Ukrainian government has introduced new regulations regarding students undergoing basic military training (BMT) and taking the military oath.
These students now automatically acquire reserve status regardless of age, marking a significant step toward building an effective human reserve system for the country’s defense needs.
According to Ivan Timochko, head of the Reserve Council of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, this new rule states that students who successfully complete their training and reach the age of 25 can be called up for military service during mobilization based on strategic needs, considering their social status and health conditions.
If they are not mobilized immediately, they remain in reserve until a threat arises or mobilization is officially announced.
This measure allows the state to plan mobilizations more flexibly and encourages students to participate in military training.
It is important to note that completing BMT is mandatory for university students in Ukraine, providing them with basic tactical, medical, and firearm skills.
The course duration ranges from one to three months and aims to develop a prepared human reserve, which will be a crucial component of Ukraine’s strategic security system.
