Russian Military Aircraft Again Violates Lithuanian Airspace: NATO Fighters Scrambled for Interception

Chas Pravdy - 23 October 2025 21:27

This evening, Lithuania’s Air Force recorded another violation of national airspace by Russian military aircraft.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, two aircraft — a Su-30 fighter and an Il-78 refueling aircraft — entered approximately 700 meters into Lithuanian airspace and stayed there for about 18 seconds before leaving.

Immediately following the incident, NATO allies launched two Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon fighters tasked with patrolling the region.

The interceptors have now reached the site of the breach and continue to monitor the airspace over Lithuania.

The Ministry emphasized that these incidents underscore the importance of strengthening national defense, as every inch of Lithuanian territory is guarded and will be defended if necessary.

The situation is part of wider regional tensions, exemplified earlier this month when British forces intercepted a Russian warship off their coast.

Lithuania remains resolute and prepared to face any challenges, the defense ministry assured.

In recent incidents, Russian MiG-31 fighter jets carrying hypersonic missiles ‘Kinzhal’ intruded into Estonian airspace, circling for over 12 minutes, violating the border and raising alarm among neighboring countries.
