Revealed Details of Russian Ballistic Missiles for ‘Iskander’: Massive Procurement Plans for 2024–2027

Chas Pravdy - 23 October 2025 20:43

New data has emerged regarding the characteristics of ballistic missiles that Russia is actively purchasing for the ‘Iskander-M’ complex.

This information sheds light on the scale of military procurement by Russia during the years 2024 to 2027.

According to documents obtained by our sources, the most ordered missile model is the 9М723-1Ф2, with over 770 units, each costing approximately 192 million Russian rubles (about 2.4 million USD).

This modification is equipped with an enhanced detonation and fragment formation system, significantly increasing its effectiveness against dispersed or layered targets.

The baseline version, 9М723-1Ф1, was purchased in minimal quantities—only 59 units at a price of about 3 million USD each.

It features a high-explosive piercing warhead with steel fragments, designed to destroy personnel and military equipment.

Another notable variant is the 9М723-1Ф3, which also has an enhanced penetrating high-explosive warhead with an upgraded casing; Russia ordered 217 such missiles at prices ranging from 2.3 to 2.9 million USD depending on the manufacturing year.

The version 9М723-1К5, with a cluster warhead designed for large-area targets, open terrain, and lightly armored vehicles, was purchased in approximately 185 units at about 3 million USD each.

The 9М723-1Б missile, equipped with the AA106 warhead, conforms to series standards with a length of 7.2 meters, a launch weight of 3.8 tons, but with a reduced warhead weight of 410 kg.

The latest modification, 9М723-1Ф4, features an improved fragment-fuse warhead and optimized detonation scheme, enhancing its capacity to effectively target fortified and surface targets.

Technical specifications remain within the series norms, but the composition of the explosive charge in the warhead may vary.

Reports also indicate that Ukrainian forces managed to destroy an ‘Iskander’ from the 448th Rocket Brigade of the Russian Federation, following an attack on Russian hangars and warehouses in Kursk, marking a significant military and psychological blow to Russia’s missile capabilities.
