Putin responds to new U.S. sanctions and threatens military retaliation

Chas Pravdy - 23 October 2025 20:27

Recent statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin indicate that the new economic restrictions imposed by the United States carry a serious tone and could significantly impact international relations.

However, the Kremlin assured that these sanctions will not harm the country’s economic well-being.

Putin emphasized that sanctions targeting major Russian oil companies like ‘Rosneft’ and ‘Lukoil’ will not have a major effect on the domestic economy.

The leader of the Kremlin also pointed out that former U.S.

President Donald Trump introduced some of the largest sanctions against Russia during his first term, which did not improve Russian-American relations.

In a humorous tone, Putin commented on European sanctions, noting that bans on purchasing Russian toilets are costly for the Europeans and still very much needed.

Furthermore, he issued a stern warning that if Russia’s territory is struck with long-range missile weapons, the response will be highly serious and shocking.

Putin stressed that such actions represent attempts at escalation, and he warned that any retaliation involving missile strikes would be proportionally severe.

He urged the international community to consider these implications carefully, noting the recent statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that supplies of ‘Tomahawk’ missiles are still ongoing, increasing regional tensions.
