NABU conducts extensive searches in corruption case involving defense fortification construction in Poltava region
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has launched a wide-ranging investigation and conducted numerous searches within the framework of a corruption and misuse of funds case related to the construction of fortifications in the Poltava region.
According to Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zelensky, on October 21, law enforcement officers carried out searches at individuals and companies connected to the head of the State Financial Monitoring Service, Filip Pronin, who is a key figure in the case concerning the embezzlement of over 200 million hryvnias.
The searches are focused on uncovering illicit financial transactions and abuses during the process of strengthening regional defense. In particular, searches were carried out at the first deputy to Pronin at the State Financial Monitoring Service, Bogdan Korolchuk, as well as at the contractor company Enki Construction LLC and various officials from the Poltava regional military administration.
Witnesses suggest that these operations mark a significant step forward in fighting corruption and abuse in the field of military construction and procurement.Former first deputy to Pronin, Bogdan Korolchuk, previously denied any misconduct, claiming to have personally overseen the fortification efforts.
However, Zelensky indicates that the ongoing investigations will shed light on the circumstances and hold accountable those responsible.
On September 3, Zelensky had earlier reported that the fortifications built by the Poltava regional authorities did not meet requirements and could have cost the state at least 200 million hryvnias more than the actual expenses.
Audio recordings and the names of potential participants involved in the corrupt scheme were also publicly disclosed.Subsequently, Ukrainian authorities, including NABU, announced that all investigative materials had been retrieved and that they continue to work towards uncovering the full scope of financial misappropriations associated with the border fortification projects.
