Zelensky sets ambitious goal: equip over half of Ukrainian armed forces with domestic weapons by year’s end
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his strategic plan to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, aiming to ensure that by the end of 2023 at least 50% of the Ukrainian military is armed with domestically produced weaponry.
This topic was a major focus during his meeting with RNSBO Secretary Rüstem Ümerov.
According to Zelensky, achieving this mark is a top priority for the government and the military.
The discussions included plans to reform Ukraine’s defense industry, expand cooperation with European partners, and bolster Ukraine’s combat aircraft.
Particular emphasis was placed on preparing new defense agreements, especially regarding the procurement of American missile systems and the potential sale of Ukrainian drones to the United States.
Zelensky highlighted Ukraine’s readiness to export its drones on the global market and to negotiate partnerships to enhance the country’s military capacity.
The signing of contracts for Patriot missile systems is also planned, which will provide Ukraine with modern military equipment over the coming years, significantly strengthening its ability to resist aggression.
