Ukraine Reinforces Defense Capabilities with New Agreements and Strategic Plans for Aviation
Ukraine is taking decisive steps to strengthen its defense system by preparing new international agreements aimed at bolstering the country’s aviation forces.
President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 21 held a high-level meeting with National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, during which plans for signing critical contracts and accords were announced.
The head of state emphasized that these measures are an integral part of the long-term strategy to develop modern and robust Air Forces capable of ensuring national security for years to come.
Zelensky added that coordination among all state agencies and defense units is essential for the effective implementation of these agreements, highlighting the importance of teamwork and precise cooperation.
Central topics on the agenda include the procurement of advanced military equipment, such as Tomahawk missile systems, and strengthening air defense systems to counter threats from Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Participants also discussed upcoming negotiations with European leaders scheduled in the near future, with a focus on helping Ukraine through military equipment supply, expansion of defense programs, and the enhancement of sanctions against Russia.
Additionally, discussions covered the development of Ukraine’s defense industry and the reform of the National Security and Defense Council to improve coordination.
Zelensky stressed the goal of increasing the share of Ukrainian-made weapons on the front to 50% by the end of the year—an ambitious yet essential target for bolstering security.
There was also mention of potential losses amounting to 12.5 billion hryvnias in defense procurement fraud uncovered by NABU, underscoring the ongoing fight against corruption in the military sector.
