Mortar Ambushes and Direct Confrontation: The Situation in Lyman and Active Ukrainian Defense Against Small Enemy Groups

Chas Pravdy - 21 October 2025 01:31

Intense fighting continues along the Lyman front as Ukrainian forces defend crucial positions against small enemy units attempting to breach their defenses.

According to Maxim Biloousov, spokesman for the 60th Mechanized Brigade, Russian sabotage groups are actively employing small infantry tactics, working covertly and setting ambushes.

Additionally, Russian forces conceal their military equipment by hiding it in concealed positions, using it selectively for pinpoint strikes from protected sectors.

Biloousov highlighted that equipment often operates from hidden positions—such as tanks acting as artillery units, firing from cover to reduce vulnerability.

The situation in the Pokrovsk direction is worsening due to disrupted logistics and ammunition shortages.

Volunteers report that the primary burden falls on mobilized units, who are sent into battle after brief training, which hampers their combat effectiveness.

Ukrainian defenders emphasize the importance of promptly detecting and eliminating small enemy groups attempting to break through.

It is also known that prisoners and wounded enemy soldiers are found with notes ordering them to commit suicide, a result of propaganda influencing their mindset so deeply that many refuse to surrender.

Reports indicate that on the Dobropillia sector, Russian troops are suffering significant losses, especially in fields around the city saturated with dead assault units.

Ukrainian Armed Forces released footage on October 19 confirming these casualties.
