Beginning diplomatic efforts grounded in frontline realities – Zelensky

Chas Pravdy - 21 October 2025 19:41

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is preparing for a series of important diplomatic meetings with European allies scheduled for this week.

The main focus of these negotiations will be the signing of a new defense agreement aimed at significantly strengthening the country’s defensive capabilities.

Zelensky emphasized that this document will be characterized by its uniqueness and importance, and its implementation will serve as a foundation for long-term security guarantees for Ukrainian citizens.

While details of the agreement are not yet disclosed, it is believed that enhanced military cooperation will be a key outcome.

Additionally, the president stated that Ukraine and its international partners share a common vision for further diplomatic steps.

He expressed gratitude to all allies for their support and firm stance on peaceful conflict resolution.

Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine is resolutely committed to pursuing a political-diplomatic path to end the war, with a clear understanding of subsequent actions.

Discussions with U.S.

President Donald Trump took place during these negotiations, with the emphasis on dialogue considering the current frontline situation.

This message was publicly conveyed to the American leadership.

The head of state underscored that the current line of contact might serve as a basis for new negotiations, but Russia attempts to avoid diplomatic processes altogether.

Zelensky also pointed out that advancing Ukraine’s long-range missile capabilities is a crucial factor in peace efforts, as strengthening Ukraine’s long-range defense systems could rapidly alter the military balance and facilitate a peaceful resolution.

Furthermore, he highlighted that recent discussions around the possible supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles have become an influential diplomatic factor, motivating Russia to reconsider its aggressive stance.

Ukraine continues to work with European partners and the USA to enhance missile defense and long-range systems, which are now priorities for national security.

The meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the USA in Washington on October 17 was also noted, where the American leader stated that the conflict should end without the involvement of Tomahawk missiles.
