Trump analyzes Ukraine’s future in the war: the possibility of regaining territories remains unlikely

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 20:38

Former U.S.

President Donald Trump expressed his view on the current situation in Ukraine and its prospects for victory in the war against Russia.

According to him, theoretically Ukraine could achieve victory and regain lost territories, but he does not believe this is likely in the near future.

During a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trump stated that he used to say Ukraine had a chance to win, but now he expresses a different opinion, emphasizing that anything can happen.

He added that war is a very complicated and often bleak matter, but sometimes there are positive moments.

As an example, he cited the Middle East situation: “Before we struck Iran, no one could have imagined a peace deal.

But when we destroyed their nuclear capability — it became one of the most significant military actions of our time,” Trump explained.

At the same time, he stressed that war holds many complex aspects, both good and bad.

Overall, the former president highlighted that all military conflicts have unpredictable consequences and difficult-to-forecast developments.

Previously, Trump criticized the Ukrainian government and, during meetings at the White House, urged Zelensky to accept more compromise conditions to halt the war, including ceding part of Donbas to Vladimir Putin, and called for strengthening negotiations, believing Ukrainians should cooperate more with Russian authorities.

This caused significant resonance and revealed his position regarding the conflict.
