Russian Shelling Leaves Chernihiv Region Without Power: Extensive Damage and Blackouts

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 03:21

The Chernihiv region is experiencing a severe energy crisis due to massive Russian attacks on critical energy infrastructure.

On October 20, the Russian military struck another power facility in the Nizhyn district, leaving over 2,700 subscribers without electricity.

These attacks are part of ongoing efforts to weaken Ukraine’s energy system, causing significant disruption for residents and emergency services.

Energy workers report extensive damage that hampers swift restoration efforts, though they are committed to restoring power as quickly as possible to the most vulnerable populations.

Earlier in the day, more than 28,000 residents were also left without power after strikes on various energy facilities throughout the region.

The region faced an air raid alert lasting over 40 minutes, with drone activity detected overhead.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy states that disruptions may be caused both by enemy strikes and maintenance or adverse weather conditions affecting the electrical networks.
