Russian Shelling Damages Railway Infrastructure: Impact on Passenger Services
Another Russian attack in eastern Ukraine has caused significant damage to the railway infrastructure around Sumy.
As a result, several main and regional trains have been delayed, complicating passenger and freight transportation in the area.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, critical railway objects, including tracks and equipment, were affected, forcing some trains to wait extended periods for repairs or replacement of engines and locomotives.
The company’s deputy director stated that due to the need to swap locomotive traction from Pliski station, trains number 46 “Uzhhorod — Kharkiv” and number 113 “Kharkiv — Lviv” experienced delays of over an hour.
Furthermore, given the damages and repair needs, regional train movements, such as number 895 “Kronotop — Fastiv-1”, operated with significant delays—around 80 minutes.
The delays also affect suburban services like train number 6452 “Nizhyn — Konotop”.
Railway workers urge passengers to stay updated on schedule changes.
Meanwhile, experts warn that Russian forces are conducting extensive multi-vector operations aimed at destroying Ukraine’s strategic infrastructure.
Analysts highlight that the targets include energy facilities and railways, which could lead to further disruptions and hardship for civilians.
Ukraine Railways CEO Oleksandr Persovskyi shared that Russians are employing highly precise drones for targeted strikes on specific locomotives and infrastructure, complicating repair efforts nationwide.
