Russian Forces Attack Energy Facilities in Chernihiv Region: Northern Area Loses Power

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 22:30

The western regions of Ukraine continue to experience the repercussions of Russian military aggression, which deliberately targets critical infrastructure.

On October 20, Russian drones struck an energy facility in Chernihiv region, causing widespread electricity outages in the northern parts of the area.

According to information from Chernihivoblenergo, the incident resulted in damage to vital energy infrastructure, leaving many settlements temporarily without power.

Local authorities report that Slavutych, a city affected by the attack, also lost water supply.

Additionally, the Kyiv-based utility company Chernihivvodokanal urged residents to stock up on drinking water, as prolonged disruptions in water supply are expected while recovery works are underway.

The mayor of Slavutych, Oleg Fomichov, stated that on October 1, the city lost power following an attack on a substation, leading to a blackout at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant that lasted approximately three hours.

Experts point out that these ongoing targeted strikes by Russian forces continue to undermine Ukraine’s infrastructure, complicating daily life and posing significant challenges for local authorities in ensuring safety and stability in the affected regions.
