International diplomatic efforts intensify after ceasefire breach in Gaza
Amid renewed armed conflicts in Gaza, international mediators have stepped up efforts to restore peace and stability.
According to Reuters, on October 20, Israeli forces resumed shelling near the ceasefire line, resulting in the deaths of three civilians.
Meanwhile, US envoys are expected to arrive to facilitate the return to diplomatic negotiations following recent tense days, during which at least 28 casualties were reported amidst intense bombings.
A Palestinian official involved in ceasefire negotiations stated that Arab mediators and the US will increase their efforts on Monday to restore calm in the enclave.
Israel confirmed that on October 19, it conducted widespread strikes across Gaza in response to attacks by Hamas, particularly in Rafah, which they consider violations of the ceasefire agreement.
Despite recent hostilities, experts are concerned about statements from former US President Donald Trump, who called for Hamas to disarm ‘within reasonable terms,’ although the organization denies any contact with Israeli forces since March.
US diplomats Steve Vittkoff and Jared Kushner plan to push for the second phase of the ceasefire plan, while both Israel and Hamas maintain their support for the truce despite violations.
Hamas also reported increased casualties among its fighters and a blockade of essential supplies into Gaza, worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.
