Enemy Strategies: How Russian Troops Are Applying New Tactics Near Kupiansk
The situation around Kupiansk remains critically tense as Russian forces are continuously developing and employing a variety of tactical approaches to achieve their strategic objectives.
According to Vitaliy Markiv, an officer from the headquarters of the 1st Battalion of Ukraine’s National Guard “Bureviy,” who spoke on “Suspline News,” the enemy attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses by pushing through combat positions held by Ukrainian units.
A notable aspect of their tactics involves moving in large columns or groups across open terrain while maintaining careful camouflage, making it difficult for Ukrainian forces to detect them.
Markiv emphasized that Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance has thoroughly studied this approach, allowing them to actively monitor likely movement directions, particularly those perceived as less guarded.
He also pointed out that warfare continues to evolve: whereas earlier the Russians staged large columns for attacks, now they prefer smaller groups, indicating a strategic shift based on analysis, testing Ukraine’s defenses, and adapting tactics accordingly.
This suggests that Russian troops are learning quickly and refining their methods.
Additionally, the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade reported that Russian forces are gathering strength in the Liman direction.
Recently, Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups infiltrated the central part of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region.
During their advance near the railway station, they killed several civilians.
Ukrainian military units responded swiftly, locating and neutralizing the saboteurs hiding within the station building.
