Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 09:28

A significant aviation incident occurred at Hong Kong International Airport, capturing global attention.

On October 20th, at approximately 3:50 a.m., a Turkish Airlines Boeing 747 cargo aircraft operated by ACT Airlines, performing a flight from Dubai, experienced a hazardous landing.

During the approach, the aircraft unexpectedly veered off the runway and collided with a security patrol vehicle stationed nearby.

The crash resulted in the aircraft breaking into two parts and falling into the water, with the vehicle also plunging into the sea.

Emergency services responded swiftly, and within 40 minutes, the bodies of two security personnel—driver and passenger—in the vehicle were recovered from the water.

Fortunately, the four crew members onboard survived without visible injuries.

Investigators quickly classified the incident as an accident, which prompted a detailed inquiry into possible causes, including technical malfunctions and operational errors.

The runway where the accident occurred remains closed, though other runways are operational, ensuring airport functionality.

Emirates Airlines confirmed that the Boeing 747 cargo plane, flight EK9788, was leased under a wet lease agreement with ACT Airlines, and at the time of the crash, it was not carrying any cargo.

This incident marks the first such accident involving this specific aircraft, and authorities continue to investigate all circumstances to prevent similar events in the future.
