After Violent Incidents in Gaza, Israel Confirms Extension of Ceasefire

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 00:22

Following another intense and bloody day in the Gaza Strip, Israeli authorities officially announced the extension of the temporary ceasefire regime.

This news came as a surprise to the international community, especially considering the fact that the day involved serious clashes between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, further complicating the regional situation.

According to information released by The Times of Israel, the decision to prolong the ceasefire was made in accordance with directives from political leadership, taking into account recent large-scale attacks by Hamas militants.

Israeli military officials stated that additional measures are being implemented to maintain calm and stability.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Israeli troops were targeted by fire in Gaza early in the morning, prompting retaliatory airstrikes and mortar shelling by Israel.

As a result of these hostilities, local media report that two Israeli soldiers were killed and three wounded.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports at least 44 civilian casualties, most of whom fell victim to airstrikes.

Despite declarations from both sides about their desire to preserve the ceasefire, the regional situation remains tense, with a high risk of escalation.

It is also noteworthy that on October 13, an international peace agreement was signed during a summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, but the ceasefire lasted less than a week, demonstrating the fragility of the peace process.
