Trump in the White House complicates Ukraine’s stance: threats from the US and tense negotiations with Zelensky
In recent hours, a controversial visit took place at the White House, marking unprecedented tension between the United States and Ukraine.
According to Financial Times, former US President Donald Trump, who is once again visiting Washington, delivered overt ultimatums regarding Ukraine’s approach to Russia during a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky.
He insisted that Ukraine agree to cede control over Donbas to Russia and warned that Vladimir Putin, if refused, would destroy Ukraine.
Sources revealed that the talks turned into an emotional conflict, with Trump raising his voice, shouting, and insulting Zelensky, implying that Ukraine must make concessions to Putin.
Central to the discussion was the idea of fully handing over Donbas to Russia’s control.
Confidential sources note that the volatile atmosphere contradicted Trump’s previous statements about supporting Ukraine and that many of his words deviated significantly from his administration’s official stance.
Zelensky, disappointed by the unexpected ultimatums and Trump’s refusal to provide “Tomahawks,” left the meeting feeling deeply disillusioned.
Analysts warn that such a tense encounter could destabilize international support for Ukraine and complicate diplomatic negotiations on the war, fueling misunderstandings among allies.
Despite the hostility during the meeting, Ukrainian diplomats managed to persuade Trump to support the idea of freezing the conflict along the front line, although this does not eliminate political risks and highlights the unpredictable nature of Trump’s position on the war.
