Sweden Calls for ‘War Mode’ to Counter Russia’s Aggression
Swedish Defense Minister, Peter Johnson, has issued a stark statement emphasizing the need for Europe to shift into a ‘war mode’ to effectively counter increasing hybrid threats from Russia.
According to Johnson, the current security environment demands not only political resilience but also decisive military preparedness capable of responding to new challenges.
He stressed that to preserve peace across Europe, a mental shift is necessary — moving into a ‘war mode’ to deter the aggressor.Referring to recent incidents of drones and fighter jets violating NATO airspace, Johnson highlighted Russia’s willingness to deploy both political and military measures to achieve its goals.
The minister pointed out that Europe must be ready to retaliate with preemptive strikes and reinforce military actions to prevent further escalation. In his statement, Johnson added that it is crucial to send a clear message to Moscow: any provocation, such as the intrusion of military ships or aircraft into territorial waters or airspace, will be met with a firm response, including the possible use of force.
This underscores the importance of raising combat readiness and strengthening defenses throughout Europe.Earlier, Sweden announced plans to increase intercept operations of Russian drones and aircraft over the Baltic Sea, a response to heightened Russian military activity near European borders.
The country has also identified Russia as a primary threat in its new national security strategy, noting aggressive actions that suggest preparedness for potential military conflicts in the region.
