Opportunities for Women in the Ukrainian Armed Forces: Positions, Requirements, and Guarantees

Chas Pravdy - 19 October 2025 04:21

Amid ongoing military aggression and the imposition of martial law in Ukraine, issues related to women’s involvement in the defense forces are becoming increasingly relevant.

While the general conscription focuses on male reservists, women have the right to volunteer for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The range of positions available for women is extensive, encompassing both civilian roles and combat positions.

The Recruitment Center of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces outlined various vacancies that closely match civilian professions: accountant, clerk, medic (nurse or paramedic), cook, IT specialist, psychologist, jurist, among others.

Importantly, women can also serve in combat roles, demonstrating their skills as drone operators (from FPV drones to large wings), aerial reconnaissance specialists, radar station operators, combat medics, and electronic warfare operators.

Social guarantees provided to women serving in the Ukrainian military include the payment of all taxes, official pension contributions, and comprehensive social packages.

These benefits include 30-day annual leave, health improvement allowances, bonuses for signing the first contract, and official sick leave.

Experts indicate that women volunteering for service can expect a competitive salary, which varies depending on their position and length of service, along with social protections and career development opportunities.
