Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Resumes Power Supply: IAEA Reports Temporary Ceasefire for Line Repairs
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, a critical strategic facility embroiled in ongoing military conflicts, has commenced a vital phase of repair works.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officially announced the initiation of repairs to the damaged external power lines that supply electricity to the plant, located within the temporarily occupied territory.
This development was made possible through a temporary ceasefire agreed upon by conflicting parties.
The repair activities follow over four weeks of outage caused by line damages and safety concerns.
According to IAEA Director Rafael Grossi, local ceasefire zones were established to ensure safe and effective repairs, with both sides working constructively with the agency to implement the complex repair plan.
This represents a significant step toward restoring stability at the station, which has faced numerous challenges recently.
Notably, on September 23, Zaporizhzhia NPP lost connection to the power grid for the first time in five months, resulting in a blackout on the site.
The plant then operated solely on diesel generators, posing serious nuclear safety risks to the environment and personnel.
The restoration of the power lines is a hopeful move toward stabilizing the situation and ensuring Ukraine’s energy independence even under extreme conditions.
