Ukrainian Navy Intelligence Unit Frees Soldiers from Occupant Captivity in Luhansk Region

Chas Pravdy - 18 October 2025 14:25

In a series of heroic and meticulously planned special operations, Ukrainian military units, notably the Navy’s ‘Angels’ Special Reconnaissance Unit, took a significant step in reclaiming the freedom of our compatriots.

As a result of their efforts, two Ukrainian servicemen — a 29-year-old veteran of the Armed Forces and a 34-year-old National Guard member — were liberated after nearly three years of captivity in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk.

This achievement was made possible through close cooperation with the Military Ombudsman, Olga Reshetilova, who coordinated the operation.

Details of the successful mission were announced by Oleksiy Kharchenko, head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration.

According to him, the National Guard member, previously considered missing in action, was in fact held captive and subjected to forced labor by collaborators.

The veteran’s mother, who also serves in the Ukrainian armed forces, reached out to the ombudsman for help after receiving information that her son, injured and in hiding, was on the occupied territory.

During the operation, two parallel evacuations took place, with both soldiers being extracted from different locations without revealing the plan.

Currently, the Ukrainian heroes are safe in territories under Ukrainian control.

Artem Diblenko from the ‘Angels’ unit shared that the quick search and evacuation organization required exceptional speed and precision, as their lives were in danger.

This incident exemplifies the courage and high professionalism of Ukrainian military personnel risking their lives daily for Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty.
