Zelensky proposes a weapons exchange with Trump: an idea involving drones and Tomahawk missiles

Chas Pravdy - 17 October 2025 23:39

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his visit to the White House, made a surprising statement regarding military supplies and cooperation with the United States.

He emphasized that Ukraine possesses thousands of domestically produced drones, which are highly valuable for our defense efforts, but unfortunately, our arsenal lacks the strategic cruise missiles like the Tomahawk, which are crucial in modern warfare.

Consequently, he proposed a sort of exchange — the US could supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles in return for our drones.

Zelensky stated that Ukraine is willing to provide its drones if Washington permits the use of Tomahawk missiles in the framework of cooperation.

He highlighted that this exchange could strengthen both sides and improve our defense capabilities.

In response, Trump expressed interest in the deal and confirmed that the US owns such missiles and is considering this possibility, taking into account its manufacturing capacity and the needs of allies.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the decision on supplying Tomahawk missiles is currently on hold — this topic is delicately being discussed, with Deputy Chernev noting that the process has been officially paused.

During negotiations, Trump said that the delivery of these missiles to Ukraine could come onto the agenda — but, in his words, it’s better to end the war without using Tomahawk missiles.

He emphasized that he plans to coordinate and discuss this issue with President Putin, but for now, the possibility of their deployment remains uncertain.

The situation with armaments reflects a complex diplomatic game, where interests and risks are constantly shifting, and decisions on their transfer could influence the course of the conflict and global security.
