Weather Changes Influence Military Operations in Southern Ukraine: Ukrainian Defense Forces Explain Enemy Tactics
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have explained how adverse weather conditions are affecting the tactical actions of Russian invaders and their use of weaponry at the front.
Defense spokesperson Vladyslav Voloshyn noted that weather significantly alters combat dynamics, especially in the context of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) usage.
He mentioned that during deteriorating weather, Russian forces reduce drone activity, including various types of UAVs, which complicates reconnaissance and targeting.
At the same time, Voloshyn stated that the enemy increases the use of artillery and ammunition, trying to compensate for their reduced UAV deployment.
In particular, Russians intensify assault operations, taking advantage of low visibility conditions caused by weather.
He emphasized that the adversary conducts multiple stages of assault, including deploying infantry units to frontline positions from where direct attacks are launched.
Ukrainian military efforts focus on eliminating enemy forces early, to minimize the number of attacks.
However, worsened weather conditions may lead the enemy to be more active, aiming to achieve tactical objectives.
Experts also note that Russian forces, during strikes against Ukraine, deactivate internet connections to hinder Ukrainian drones’ reconnaissance capabilities, raising questions about the effectiveness of such measures.
With both sides actively using UAVs and robotic platforms, the traditional front line in Ukraine has practically disappeared.
Instead, a so-called ‘kill zone’ has emerged— a strip 500 meters to 10 kilometers wide with hideouts and trenches for both sides.
