Valuable Picasso Painting Stolen: Museum Heist or New Episode in Art Crime History?
Just before the opening of an exhibition in Granada, a high-profile incident occurred — a valuable painting by the renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso went missing from a private collection.
The work titled “Still Life with Guitar,” created with gouache and pencil in 1919, disappeared from a truck transporting it to the exhibition at the CajaGranada foundation.
The painting is estimated to be worth approximately 600,000 euros, making this theft one of the largest in recent art history.According to police reports, the vehicle arrived in Granada during transport, and staff announced the successful delivery before beginning unloading.
However, early the next morning, employees noticed that one piece was missing — the “Still Life with Guitar.” Investigations into the criminal activity are now underway, as authorities seek to establish all details and identify potential suspects. This is not the first theft involving Picasso’s works.
Throughout history, there have been similar cases: in 1976, over a hundred of his paintings were stolen from a museum in Avignon, and in 1989, twelve paintings were stolen from a villa on the French Riviera.
The current theft underscores the vulnerability of valuable art collections and the urgent need to strengthen security measures.
Police have not disclosed further details, but experts are confident that the stolen artwork will be recovered and criminals held accountable.
