Chas Pravdy - 17 October 2025 11:40

On the morning of October 17th, the capital of Romania, Bucharest, experienced a massive and devastating explosion in one of its residential high-rise buildings.

This tragic incident resulted in at least two fatalities and injuries to 11 residents.

According to Romanian sources, the blast occurred on the sixth or seventh floor of a nine-story building located in the Rahova neighborhood within Sector 5 of the city.

Following the explosion, a large fire broke out, spreading rapidly across the structure.

Photos from the scene reveal that external walls and floors between levels were completely destroyed at the epicenter of the blast, with several apartments severely damaged and nearby windows shattered.

It is known that two residents lost their lives, and 11 others sustained various injuries and burns.

The Ministry of Health reports that five of the most critically injured were hospitalized.

Rescue teams continue their search and evacuation operations, having moved dozens of residents from adjacent apartments and students from a nearby educational institution.

Around twenty fire trucks, ambulances, and specialized vehicles are at the site.

Witnesses describe a strong gas odor around the building, suggesting a possible gas leak that may have caused the explosion.

This tragic event raises concerns about residential safety in Bucharest and prompts discussions on infrastructure security in the region.
