Tragic Accident in Odessa Region: Truck Strikes Two Military Personnel at Checkpoint, Both Killed
On the morning of October 17th, a tragic road accident occurred in the Odessa region, resulting in the deaths of two servicemen.
Around 7 a.m., near the village of Sukhyi Lyman, a truck unexpectedly rammed into two soldiers who were stationed at a mobile checkpoint.
Preliminary reports indicate that the men, aged 34 and 36, suffered fatal injuries from the impact.
One soldier died instantly at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
The truck driver, a 63-year-old man, explained that he did not notice the soldiers due to certain circumstances, and this was confirmed after a sobriety check — he was sober at the time.
Currently, investigative officers are working at the scene, establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy.
A criminal investigation is underway, and authorities are considering entering the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations (UPVI), as well as detaining the driver procedurally.
Law enforcement urges drivers to remain attentive on the roads and adhere strictly to traffic rules, especially in this area, to prevent future accidents.
As a result of the incident, traffic on this section of the road has been complicated, leading to delays and additional difficulties for local residents and travelers.
