Russian Drone Attacks on Kryvyi Rih: Impact on Energy Infrastructure and City Life
Following a massive drone attack by Russian forces on the critical energy infrastructure of Kryvyi Rih during the nights of October 16–17, the city experienced severe consequences.
The strikes resulted in large fires, power outages across many districts, and substantial disruptions to residents’ daily routines and essential services.
Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the city’s Defense Council, reported that the enemy targeted more than ten infrastructure objects with precision strikes, causing widespread fires.
Emergency services were promptly deployed to contain the blazes and address the damage.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the situation remained tense.
Ukrenegro officials are actively working on restoring electricity to affected areas, though some settlements like Avangard, Verabove, and Myrivske remain without power.
The blackout also affected public transportation; trolleybuses to Myrivske are currently not operating, and an additional bus route has been introduced to assist residents.
All vital services, including hospitals, municipal transport, and social institutions, continue functioning.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned these coordinated airstrikes, describing them as part of a systematic terror campaign aimed at destabilizing the country’s energy sector and undermining the peace and stability of Ukrainian society.
