Russian Chemical Attacks in Ukraine: Global Exposes of Systematic Violations

Chas Pravdy - 17 October 2025 02:27

The Russian Federation continues to systematically violate international law, notably the Chemical Weapons Convention, by actively deploying toxic munitions on the Ukrainian frontline.

During the OSCE Permanent Council meeting in Vienna, Ukraine presented detailed evidence of nearly 11,000 cases of chemical weapon use by the aggressor.

These attacks have resulted in over two thousand soldiers suffering from poisoning, indicating a widespread and systematic pattern of violations that pose a threat not only to Ukraine but also to global security.

The Ukrainian delegation emphasized that such actions blatantly disregard international norms and undermine efforts by the international community to control armaments.

Participants condemned Russia’s double standards, highlighting its claims of a peaceful stance while continuing to bombard civilian infrastructure and deploying chemical agents in combat zones.

Experts from Ukraine also warn of an increasing presence of toxic substances in the environment, food, water, and human blood, which further endangers global health.

Allegations are mounting that chemical agents might have been used directly in combat zones: since the start of the year, over 500 bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been examined in Chernivtsi, many showing signs consistent with poisoning, despite most dying from blast wounds.

Some bodies lacked visible injuries, indicating possible toxic substance exposure, potentially inflicted by Russia.
