Switzerland Condemns Russian-Speaking Man’s Assault on Ukrainian Family on Train
The incident in Switzerland has sparked swift reactions from Ukraine and international communities, where a Russian-speaking man assaulted a family speaking Ukrainian aboard a train carriage.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the provocation, calling it ‘horrific’ and asserting its intention to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tihiy, Swiss law enforcement authorities are already investigating the incident, emphasizing that language of hatred and interethnic hostility cannot be tolerated.
The attack occurred in the canton of Bern when the man, apparently intoxicated, began threatening the family after overhearing their Ukrainian speech, even questioning the father why he was ‘not in a trench.’ The video recording, which circulated on social media, contains obscene language and documents the aggressive behavior of the assailant.
Witnesses reported that the man, who was drinking beer during the altercation, started harassing the family, threatening death, and asking why their father was not fighting in the war.
The family, with Belarusian roots, was deeply shocked, especially their one-year-old child.
According to the wife, the aggressor calmed down only after being pushed away.
The Bern police confirmed they are investigating and plan to hold the perpetrator accountable.
This is not an isolated incident in Europe; earlier, Czech authorities detained four Russian-speaking citizens for attacking Ukrainian volunteers in Prague, highlighting growing hostility towards Ukrainians across the continent.
