More than a quarter of Germans consider war with Russia possible within the next six months

Recent surveys reveal that over 27% of Germans believe there is a significant likelihood of an armed conflict with Russia in the coming half-year.

The data, collected by Ipsos from a sample of 1,000 citizens aged 18 to 75, shows that 20% of respondents see war as more likely, while an additional 7% consider it very probable.

Conversely, about 36% think such a scenario is unlikely, with 25% considering it extremely unlikely.

Another 12% remain undecided.

Sociologists point out that fears of war are especially strong among younger people and women.

Specifically, among those aged 18 to 39, more than a third (35%) view a military clash with Russia as either quite likely or very likely.

Among the 40-59 age group, this sentiment drops to 26%, and among those 60 to 75, it is only 18%.

Women tend to be more pessimistic, with 33% expressing significant anxiety, compared to just 21% of men.

Supporters of left-populist and far-right parties, such as the Sarah Wagenknecht-led alliance and the Alternative for Germany, demonstrate the highest fears of an impending war, with 41% and 31% respectively considering conflict with Russia imminent.

These findings come amid increased concerns in NATO countries following recent incidents involving drones and fighter jets from Russia violating airspace, prompting discussions of more decisive responses, including military options.
