Major corruption scheme uncovered in Zaporizhzhia TCC: bribes at the front and flight from justice

Chas Pravdy - 16 October 2025 16:33

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have dismantled a significant corruption network within the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TCC) in Zaporizhzhia region, involving officials demanding bribes from war veterans for quicker processing of documents and registration at military enlistment offices.

According to information from the State Bureau of Investigation, two senior officials were caught red-handed attempting to profit from veterans’ needs and using blackmail to extort illegal payments.

Investigators report that one deputy head of a district TCC, along with a partner from another center, demanded $2,000 from a former serviceman to expedite his military registration process.

The veteran, recently returned from service on the Kharkiv front, sought registration at the TCC but instead faced threats, coercion, and blackmail.

Law enforcement detained the suspects during the bribe transfer.

The deputy tried to escape by fleeing in a vehicle, throwing banknotes from the window, but was stopped by police.

Both individuals face charges of extortion and illegal gain under Ukrainian criminal law, with penalties of up to ten years in prison.
