Ukraine Soon to Acquire Satellites for the Formation of Its Own Space Forces
In the near future, Ukraine is poised to equip its military with a modern and efficient space infrastructure, marking a significant step toward strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
Member of Parliament Fedor Venislavsky revealed details regarding the timelines and plans for acquiring Ukrainian satellites to establish full-scale Space Forces.
According to the politician, preparations are already underway by the Ministry of Defense and the Main Intelligence Directorate, with work focused on obtaining or purchasing space vehicles from international partners.Legislative changes are currently being considered by the Verkhovna Rada to facilitate the creation of this new military branch within the Armed Forces.
Venislavsky emphasized that while the number and specifications of the satellites are still confidential, they are expected to be high-capacity orbital assets crucial for defense operations.Members of the defense committee have already recommended that parliament approve appropriate legal frameworks to implement this initiative.
The MP expressed confidence that, in the near term, Ukraine could begin the organizational formation of its Space Forces, which will significantly enhance the ability to gather and analyze space-based intelligence and bolster overall national defense against external threats.This initiative is part of Ukraine’s strategic plan to strengthen its military resilience.
Retired Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief and UK ambassador Valeriy Zaluzhny pointed out that due to the lack of a comprehensive space management system, Ukraine has missed opportunities to maximize the potential of systems like HIMARS.
Establishing a dedicated space unit will provide a new impetus for modernization and strategic integration of defense resources.
