On Tuesday, October 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially confirmed the implementation of a military administration in the strategic city of Odessa.

This move marks a significant step towards strengthening defense and security measures in the southern region of the country.

During his evening address, the leader expressed his concerns regarding the situation in frontline communities, particularly in Odessa, highlighting the urgent need to enhance the city’s protection and increase support for its residents.

“Odessa requires more effective security measures, and the establishment of a military administration will serve as a vital tool for this.

Our goal is to ensure civilian safety and improve city management considering today’s challenges,” Zelensky stated.

He added that a commander for the Odessa Military Administration would be appointed soon; media reports suggest that Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration head, Serhiy Lysak, is a potential candidate.

Furthermore, Zelensky announced that the appointment process is already underway, and all necessary decisions will be made shortly.

Additionally, the president revealed plans to strip Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship due to his possession of a Russian passport.

This decision has sparked considerable controversy and is expected to be challenged in court, as Trukhanov intends to defend his rights.

Despite these developments, Zelensky emphasized that regional security and stability remain top priorities for the government, and reassured citizens that efforts to strengthen the city’s defense are ongoing in full force.
