Zelensky assesses Russian drone provocations against Europe as successful pressure tactics

Chas Pravdy - 12 October 2025 23:19

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky considers Russia’s recent deployment of drones in EU countries and the violation of European airspace by Russian aircraft as part of a successful strategy by Moscow to destabilize and pressure Europe.

According to Zelensky, these provocations are an extension of Vladimir Putin’s policy aimed at increasing pressure and testing the response of the global community.Zelensky emphasized that these attacks serve not only as demonstrations of force but also as tests of Europe’s air defense capabilities.

He noted that during recent incidents, the Polish military sector managed to shoot down only a few of the dozens of drones launched by Russia, allowing Moscow to evaluate the vulnerability and readiness of European air defenses.

The Ukrainian leader suggested that Russia aims to reduce the supply of anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine by creating tensions within Europe.Furthermore, Zelensky highlighted that Russia’s provocations are also designed to prepare its society for possible escalation, especially in the Baltic region and Poland.

He drew parallels with Russia’s initial steps in 2014 regarding Crimea, pointing out that the global response at that time was insufficient and uncoordinated.

Zelensky warned that such provocations pose a dangerous threat by signaling Russia’s intent to influence public opinion and prepare for broader military actions, making it a complex challenge for the West to confront.Overall, Zelensky warns that this tactic is a clear indication of Russia’s ongoing testing of Western defenses and intentions.

He urges European nations to remain vigilant and united to prevent further escalation and to ensure regional stability amid growing uncertainties.
